Yesterday was organized a meeting of students of different grades of New York Schools with dr. Jonila Godole, Executive Director of the Institute for Democracy, Media and Culture (IDMC). The topic of the meeting was the situation of repression, political persecution and human rights violations during the communist regime in Albania. The impetus for this activity was the publication of the book entitled "Lest We Forget" which contained testimonies of politically persecuted people by former communist countries in Europe, including Albania.
The speech of Mrs. Godole was attended with great curiosity and interest by the students present. Dynamic presentation, with culture and depth of thought on her part, were a good basis for encouraging an active participation of students in the discussion, freely expressing their opinions and views regarding the historical period in question, its issues regarding political freedoms but also for a wider range of topics about our history.
The activity was a good motive to concretize the knowledge gained during the development of the curriculum through the use of historical resources.
